Coaching Policy

Coaching Policy

There are many resources available for netball coaches

St Anthony's policy is to pay the Netball Victoria membership for all of our coaches (and committee & team managers) as well as to reimburse any costs involved in acquiring netball coaching qualifications or skills.

Please head to this page to see more about Resources and the Coaching pathway /about-us/coaches-programme/

Coaches need to register using the normal Netball Connect process but selecting Team Official - Coach as the membership, as well as Junior or Senior Player (if applicable). Then when you reach the end of the form apply the Discount Code COACH in addition to any other applicable discount codes. This ensures that the club pays the VNA for you. Go to the Netball Registrations Page for the full process of registering.

Please note that it is a requirement that all coaches have completed the Foundations level coaching course (the club will reimburse the cost for undertaking this course for all team coaches)

Coaching Levels

Purpose

This policy summarises the proposed St Anthony’s approach to coaching payments.

Background

Coaches are an integral part of the club. Junior teams need a coach. Currently, (2022) our 13 teams have the following coaching arrangements:

Coaching Arrangement
Number of Teams
Unpaid parent volunteer
2
Paid coach
9
No coach (Open teams)
2
Total
13

In principle the Committee supports payment for coaches as fair compensation for their significant efforts. The Committee has recognised that the paid coaches are mainly young people, and time spent coaching represents time that they can’t earn money from a casual job for example.

The Committee has agreed in principle, subject to consultation with Team Managers and a final decision at the May committee meeting, that from the Spring 2022 season:

Coaches to be paid from the St Anthony’s bank account in two instalments to coaches (one in mid-season and one at the end of the season as follows):

Experience of coach
Payment for season:
New Coaches
Level 1 - Inexperienced coach Foundation Course required (Example. 2 seasons or less coaching experience)
$300 + extra $25 for each week of finals (assuming training session plus attendance at finals games)
Level 2 - Intermediate coach (e.g. 2+ or more years’ coaching experience; and / or further coaching accreditation, Eg: Development Level coaching accreditation)
$400 + extra $30 for each week of finals (assuming training session plus attendance at finals games)
Level 3 - Experienced coach (e.g. Development level coaching accreditation & 2 years' coaching experience; or Foundation level accreditation plus 4 years’ experience; or elite playing level (e.g. VNL))
$500 + extra $40 for each week of finals (assuming training session plus attendance at finals games)
Note:- Co-coaches will receive half fee for the season

The above schedule assumes regular weekly training sessions plus game day coach.

The payments to be funded by an increase in registration fees for all teams which have a coach (regardless of whether that coach is paid) by approximately $60.

The two Open teams who do not benefit from coaching will not have to pay the additional fee. This could be arranged via a discount code in Netball Connect.

Any questions regarding the payment of coaches can be directed to treasurer@stanthonysnetball.org.au or secretary@stanthonysnetball.org.au
